Preet Bharara talks Trump, impeachment inquiry and bringing podcast to Royal Oak
Preet Bharara recalls a live show he did a year ago with another cable-news legal analyst, Jeffrey Toobin, for a packed house of 1,200 people on a rainy night in Washington, D.C.
"I came out to the stage and said 'You guys know there's no singing or dancing, right? It's just a couple of middle-aged lawyers going to talk about stuff," says Bharara with a laugh. "And they're like, 'Whooo!' I don't think you would have seen that five years ago."
Is he ever right. Before 2017, Bharara was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he oversaw the prosecution of mobsters, public officials, Wall Street types and terrorists.
In 2017, Bharara was fired after refusing the Trump administration's request for the immediate resignations of nearly 50 appointees of President Barack Obama. Since then, he has been busy as an author, CNN analyst and New York University law school scholar-in-residence. Did we mention he's also a social media star? His 1.2 million Twitter followers can't be wrong.
