Feds to monitor voting rights in Detroit, 5 other Michigan cities on Election Day
The Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department will be on the lookout for voting rights violations on Election Day in communities across the country, including Detroit.
The department announced Friday that it would be monitoring 86 places in all.
In addition to Detroit, Michigan cities to be monitored are Hamtramck, Warren, Ann Arbor, Flint and Grand Rapids. All six communities voted heavily Democratic in the 2020 presidential election.
Other cities on the list include St. Louis, Minneapolis and Milwaukee, as well as counties that include large cities like Miami, Orlando, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
Detroit experienced an intense election scene in 2020 as challengers converged on an absentee ballot counting location in the city, yelling and banging on windows, chanting "stop the count."
