Detroit reports highest single-day early voter turnout on Tuesday
With one week until Election Day on Nov. 5, voters Tuesday in Detroit continued strong early ballot efforts with the highest single-day turnout of the 2024 general election season so far.
Some 3,163 votes were cast at the city's 14 early voting locations, according to figures provided by the city's Department of Elections.
The strong showing builds on a recent surge; the second-highest single-day turnout came Monday, when 2,725 ballots were cast, the city reported.
Detroit voters cast 1,897 ballots on Oct. 19, the opening day of early voting in Michigan. In total, 18,211 Detroiters have already cast their general election ballots.
Statewide, nearly 2 million Michiganians have already voted as of Monday, according to the Michigan Department of State's online Voting Dashboard. That total includes 1,602,831 absentee ballots returned and 389,644 ballots cast during early voting.
