Sheriff, prosecutor, township supervisors on the ballot in Wayne County elections
As voting begins across Metro Detroit, Wayne County residents are deciding on dozens of local races along with president, Congress and state House seats.
Four of the county's top officials are up for reelection. Prosecutor Kym Worthy and Clerk Cathy Garrett, both Democrats, don't face Republican opponents but challenges from third party candidates. Worthy is running against Libertarian Kerry Morgan, while Garrett faces Joseph LeBlanc, also a Libertarian and former candidate for sheriff.
Sheriff Raphael Washington, a Democrat, meanwhile, faces three-time Republican candidate T.P. Nykoriak. Treasurer Eric Sabree, a Democrat, is running unopposed.
All 15 Wayne County Commission seats also are up for reelection, with nine incumbents running unopposed. The commission is now solidly controlled by Democrats who have a 14-1 majority. District 11 Commissioner Al Haidous is not running for another term, and Democrat Allen Wilson is running unopposed to replace him.
