Boston buried after nor'easter dumps 23.8 inches of snow.(Hurricane-force winds caused huge snow drifts)
Northeast was slammed by a "wicked" powerful storm system that dropped up to two-and-a-half feet of snow and left millions digging out a day later.
... the highest reported snowfall total was 30.9 inches in Stoughton, Massachusetts, about 20 miles southwest of Boston. Boston was hammered by prolific snowfall with rates of 2-4 inches per hour.
Boston finished with a total of 23.8 inches of snow from the storm. According to an AccuWeather analysis, the 23.8-inch accumulation total makes for the seventh-largest snowfall event in Boston history.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston said measuring snowfall was proving to be difficult thanks to the high winds which were blowing the snow into towering drifts.

(7,504 posts)3. Yes, it was a mess and my yard has 8' drifts.
The beginning was not too bad but mid-day the winds changed and the snow got even worse. Ranks in my mind, second to the blizzard of '78. The nasty cold has been tough on everyone as they shoveled this mess. Houses here are close together and there is no place to put the snow. 70 MPH gusts, the house shook.
