ACLU sues Boston police over request for public records

The ACLU of Massachusetts and the national ACLU filed the lawsuit Thursday in Suffolk Superior Court.

The ACLU said it requested the records 11 months ago amid concern nationwide about racially discriminatory police practices.

The group said the Police Department has not asserted any legal basis for withholding the records.

Boston police spokesman James Kenneally said police have been in touch with the ACLU and "look forward to resolving this issue in the interest of transparency."
