Massachusetts First Dispensary Will Finally Open This Spring
BY Barry Bard ON January 5th, 2015
Since Massachusetts legalized medical marijuana in November of 2012, the state's patients have patiently and anxiously awaited the state's first dispensary to open its doors. The agonizing wait will finally come to an end this spring when the state's first licensed and inspected dispensary can legally open for patients.
On New Year's Eve, the state's Department of Public Health approved the state's first collective, Alternatives Therapies Group, to set up shop at 50 Grove Street in Salem, Massachusetts. ATG is Massachusetts' first dispensary to pass the "inspectional phase" and receive approval for its location. Additionally, 14 other state-approved dispensaries must pass the same inspection phase before their operations receive green lights.
After this successful inspection phase, ATG and the other awaiting dispensaries, may begin developing their cultivation center, medical retail centers, and realistic business plans. As the BostonInno notes, ATG will begin growing weed immediately at its Amsebury grow facility, but it will take ATG an estimated two to four months before plant material is ready and patients can make purchases.
While this report does not note when Massachusetts' other 14 dispensaries can expect their inspections to take place, this first domino means that they're likely not far behind and that the state's imminent medical marijuana explosion will indeed take place in 2015.
