Senate Confirms Massachusetts Judge Indira Talwani 94-0

On a 94-0 vote, the U.S. Senate May 8 confirmed Indira Talwani to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

According to the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, she is the first Asian American and Indian American to serve as a federal judge in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the first person of Asian descent to serve as an Article III judge in the courts covered by the First Circuit and only the second female Article III judge of South Asian descent nationwide.

“Indira Talwani’s confirmation is cause for further celebration as we observe Asian Pacific American Heritage month," said NAPABA president William J. Simonitsch in a statement.

Before being confirmed to the bench, Talwani was partner at the Massachusetts law firm of Segal Roitman, where she focused on civil litigation at state and federal trial court and appellate levels.
