Two strikes: Brockton Rox miss lease payment, don’t renew liquor license
BROCKTON
In two developments that could signal the demise of the team, the Brockton Rox were able to muster Thursday just a portion of their lease payment due to the Brockton 21st Century Economic Development Corp. and failed to renew its liquor license with the city.
The team this week paid just $15,000 of the $125,000 payment due to the B-21 corporation, the teams landlord, according to city Chief Financial Control Officer John Condon.
Condon said the action triggered a so-called letter of credit agreement Thursday, whereby Can-Am League Commissioner Miles Wolff ended up providing the full payment to the city. The Rox has been a member of this independent league since 2005.
Also on Thursday, Rox CEO Chris Carminucci told The Enterprise that the team did not renew the stadiums liquor license for cash flow reasons. Cost of renewal is $2,700.
