ST. MARY'S COUNTY, Md. The National Weather Service confirmed late Tuesday evening that three tornadoes touched down in southern Maryland as a result of Tropical Storm Isaias. Two tornadoes were spotted in St. Mary's County and one hit Calvert County.
Reports of damage were widespread in southern Maryland after Tropical Storm Isaias made landfall late Monday night in the Carolinas, and traveled up the East Coast producing winds over 70 mph.
Leonardtown, Maryland issued a 7-day State of Emergency and neighbors were in cleanup mode all afternoon, clearing tree debris and even a toppled RV camper, which flipped three times.
The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal crash where a large tree fell on top of a moving car in Mechanicsville. Police said the incident happened near Charlotte Hall Road off Route 5 in St. Marys County shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Firefighters said a tree fell on a car, trapping the driver inside, as authorities worked to clear the scene and free the driver for nearly two hours. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.'>>>
