RASKIN TO CHAIR NEW OVERSIGHT "SUBCOMMITTEE ON CIVIL RIGHTS AND CIVIL LIBERTIES"
Raskin will also join the Subcommittee on Government Operations
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) will serve as Chairman of the newly created Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties in the 116th Congress as he continues his service on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform in his second Term. Raskin will lead the Subcommittee whose jurisdiction includes: civil rights; civil liberties; voting rights; freedom of religion, speech, press, and assembly; equal employment; nondisclosure agreements; criminal justice reform; and oversight of the Census Bureau.
Im honored to serve as Chairman of this important oversight subcommittee, Well shine a bright light on violations of the civil rights and civil liberties of the people wherever they occur and well work to make progress at a time when our most precious values are under attack. Im looking forward to getting to work with an all-star roster of subcommittee Members.
Raskin thanked the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, Elijah Cummings (MD-7), for his leadership. Chairman Cummings leadership has sparkled like a diamond in this tawdry period of American life. It is an honor beyond measure to work with him.
Members of the Oversight Committee serving on the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties include: Reps. Carolyn Maloney (NY-12), William Lacy Clay (MO-1), Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23), Robin Kelly (IL-2), Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), and Ayanna Pressley (MA-7).'
