Legislative aide in Annapolis fired after Times reveals him as fake news mastermind
Cameron Harris admits he still hasn't quite grasped the magnitude of being a known proprietor of one of the country's most notorious fake news websites.
When he answers the door at his new Annapolis home, one he said he only moved into about a week ago, he's wearing an old "Blaine Young for County Executive" T-shirt and shorts. His shirt both reveals his political affiliation Republican and his political origins, a political player in Frederick County, most recently a campaign manager for Del. David E. Vogt's run for Congress in 2016.
This week, Harris went public as the owner of ChristianTimesNewspaper.com after a New York Times reporter was able to trace the site back to him. His website fabricated multiple news articles, including one about election fraud in Ohio that went so viral, it required its secretary of state, Jon Husted, to deny the story's falsities.
The Times published its article on Harris on Wednesday and by that afternoon, he'd lost his job as a legislative aide for Vogt, with Vogt telling The Frederick News Post that he "can't support dishonesty in any way."
