by Senator Van Hollen:'The fight to stop Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans from cutting

Medicare and dismantling the Affordable Care Act started yesterday. Usually, new members of the Senate are not expected to speak for weeks. But this is not a time for "business as usual" in the Senate, and I cannot remain silent. Tonight, I delivered my first statement on the Senate Floor, where I called upon Republicans to stop their callous march toward dismantling much of our health care system and putting lives at risk. For years, Republicans have claimed they will "repeal" Obamacare and "replace" it with an alternative plan — but we know the truth: they have no alternative.

The fight has begun to stop this reckless and irresponsible bait and switch scheme to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and run. Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans need to hear the voice of the people. On Sunday afternoon, January 15th, we will be organizing a Maryland rally to speak out against this outrage. Details will be forthcoming — I hope you will join us and spread the word.'
