I grew up in a republican house hold. yup you might say that I was a typical paper town son who
grew up in a mill-town whose family knew which side the bread was buttered on. I stayed with that tunneled visioned outlook till I was about 30. Then I went to a meeting to voice my opinion on who I thought would make a good candidate for a state congressman in my district. well we were told that we could speak out freely and come to a consensus! hmmm but the jerk the party sent down didn't like our choice so he ridiculed us and said we had to vote for this candidate he favored. Well never one to not speak his piece "I said I was under the impression we were to decide among ourselves who we liked and bring it to a vote" -his reply was that holy group (not in those exact words) from Augusta wanted us to pick their choice! hmmm I said so that's how democracy works in Augusta. I said I think I am an independent thinker and will decide who I should vote for " and from now on I shall never waste my time in any such farce as this where the powers to be send someone like you to steer the vote. THEIR WERE ABOUT 50 PEOPLE IN THIS GATHERING AND APPROX 25 LEFT WITH ME!
Do you think the governor has the right to hold back bond money that the majority of voters approved? If you do your probably a republican and the reason we are such a poor state. Negative thinking destroys more than it ever achieves! If you have an idea doesn't mean you have the right to destroy mine. If I like yours I 'LL PUSH IT ! BUT IF THE MAJORITY VOTE FOR ANOTHER IDEA EVEN THOUGH I DON'T LIKE IT-I WILL HONOR THEIR VOTE! THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON MAJORITY RULES!

(1,615 posts)and am wondering how this dude got re-elected considering the amount of antipathy he generates.
yes maine has some stupid taxes.
that could be fixed by changing the tax code, not hiring the tea party.

(3,880 posts)the right has always been led by big players in this state. what I have learned is from working for big business owners in the construction field and paper industry. One example was the state conservation dept at one time could not check out paper companies cutting operations without their permission-that a missile sight location was placed on a competitors land because he wasn't a republican! and I'm talking the 1950's! And I don't doubt stuff like this goes on in both sides of the isle-so I pick who I think will do the most good for the state. because I know we don't have population enough to maintain our infrastructure on our own.

(228 posts)Why was he reelected Redruddy? Lucky had the answer. Maine at one time was a Republican state. Grand Pa and Dad voted Republican and so do I. Unlike Lucky most are not free thinkers and can't break the tradition.

I remember headlines in the Bangor daily news claiming it was near impossible to get highway funds or other infrastructure monies needed. hmm you say ! ha ha ur wet behind the ears I SAY!

IT DAM NEAR TOOK A REVOLUTION TO GET THE TURNPIKE BUILT BEYOND PORTLAND. I-95 TOOK YEARS TO GET IT TO BE BUILT FROM BOTH ENDS.
I LIVE A FEW MILES NORTH OF PORTLAND ,LAID OUT THE EXIT TO THE MAINE MALL AMONGST OTHER PROJECTS AND OLD MONEY HAD TO BE DRAGGED BY HORSES TO LET NEW MONEY INVEST IN MAINE! HELL I'LL BET YOUR LESS THAN 30 OR YOU LIVE IN A NUNNERY!

seriously bro, all caps are never cool unless it's irony, and seeing that you are not x<30, you probably don't know how to deploy that one properly.

(3,880 posts)I wouldn't brag to much about nh in the 50's. I helped drag ur arses out of the dark ages. you see the company I worked for had an office in Portsmouth in the 50's. I helped bring your tar roads from the pot hole jungle they use to be to the highways you cruise on today. (you were throttled by the republican stranglehold also)
I worked on Pease AFB FROM THE GITGO! We showed you that new was much cheaper and less expensive in the long run. So that JOHNNY COME LATELY LIKE YOU COULD BECOME AN EXPERT IN YOUR OWN MINDS!
OOPS NOW i SOUND LIKE YOU -A WINDBAG!

(133 posts)I think that our governor is an embarrassment to Maine. Holding voter approved bond money hostage until he gets what he wants (again) is wrong on so many levels. He does not represent me at all. He is a mean-spirited bully with a vendetta against the poor.
