Bossier City Council passes resolution calling for special election on term limits

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KSLA) — After days in court and countless meetings, the Bossier City Council has passed a resolution calling for a special election that would put a retroactive version of term limits in front of the city’s voters.

The legislation that council members approved Tuesday (Jan. 28) calls for an election in May with charter amendments asking for a three-term limit for the mayor and City Council members. Terms elected to or appointed on prior to Jan. 1, 2024, would count toward the limitation.

This version of term limits has been a topic of discussion for more than a year.

Most recently, a court ruled that the council must call an election if the required number of signatures is met.
