Raceland man seeks over $1 million in stun gun lawsuit

A Raceland man is suing the Thibodaux Police Department and a former officer for more than $1 million after a stun gun was used on him during his arrest.

Cole Rodriguez, 34, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in New Orleans.

He is asking for $1 million from the Police Department “for the pain and suffering received for their negligence” and $100,000 from Welton Walker “for his actions and the public humiliation.”

Police said Rodriguez was dancing at a bar on St. Mary Street the night of April 15 when a woman he’d been in and out of a relationship with joked about his dance moves. He allegedly hit her multiple times, and she then struck him in the face before other bar patrons separated them.
