Speaker bans Sen. Dan Seum Sr. son for inappropriate comments
Kentuckys GOP House speaker has banned the son of one of the Senates top Republicans from the third floor of the legislative office building for allegedly making inappropriate comments.
House Speaker Jeff Hoover said he authorized the ban of Dan Seum Jr. because the director of the Legislative Research Commission requested it. Seum is the son of Senate Republican Caucus chairman Dan Seum Sr. of Louisville.
When he reported back to me, it was his finding that the complaint as made was substantiated and it was his recommendation that the gentleman who had made those statements and against whom the complaint was made be barred from the third floor of the Capitol and I took his recommendation and gave him authority to do that, Hoover said.
Dan Seum Jr. told The Courier-Journal it was a terrible misunderstanding. He told the newspaper some legislative staffers overheard him quoting a racist comment that he said he condemns. Seum also said he was not interviewed as part of the LRCs investigation.
