Defund Planned Parenthood bill passes Kentucky House
FRANKFORT, Ky. The Kentucky Senate gave a bill that would reduce Planned Parenthood's access to federal family planning funds the final approval it needed Wednesday evening, so now it only requires Gov. Matt Bevin's signature to become law.
The Senate already passed that legislation earlier this year but needed to confirm some changes the state House of Representatives made when it approved the bill Tuesday night.
Senate Bill 8, which passed the House on a 75-13 vote, is likely to be the Republican-controlled General Assemblys final salvo targeting abortion rights during this years legislative session, which is drawing to a close.
Earlier in the session lawmakers passed new laws that prohibit abortion after women reach the 20th week of pregnancy and require medical professionals to perform ultrasounds on women before an abortion. Bevin, a vocal opponent of abortion, quickly approved those bills earlier this year.
