Gov. Matt Bevin pays late property tax bill
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Republican Gov. Matt Bevin and his wife Glenna have paid the late property taxes due on their Cherokee Gardens home in Louisville, according to a review of Jefferson County tax records.
Terri Geraghty, chief financial officer for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, said the Bevins mailed in a check covering the full $11,080.03 in property taxes due on their 3,500-square-foot home. She said the sheriff's office processed the check on Tuesday.
Amanda Stamper, communications director for Bevin's office, declined to answer questions about the matter, including whether news reports earlier this month about Bevin not paying the bill on time prompted him to pay now.
The Bevins originally owed $9,157 that was due on Dec. 31 for their nearly $700,000 home, sheriff records showed. It grew to $11,080 because it was not paid before the penalties began to be assessed.
