Thousands Attend 50th Anniversary Of The Civil Rights March In Frankfort

FRANKFORT, KY. — Amid melting snow and a bright sun, thousands of Kentuckians gathered at the capital Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of a landmark civil-rights march — and to proclaim that the fight for equality has not ended.
...........
But on Wednesday, the focus was as much on a current issue — a bill to extend voting rights to some convicted felons — as the struggles of a half century ago. The hourlong event featured speeches by civil-rights pioneer Georgia Davis Powers, Rep. Jesse Crenshaw (D-Lexington), Kentucky poet laureate Frank XWalker, and Gov. Steve Beshear.
