Legislative action
Since the general assembly is in session, I just wanted to encourage everyone to let your legislators know how you feel on issues.
Use this page to find your legislator's names: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/legislators.htm
Look up contact info for your legislators: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/whoswho/email.htm
You can also call the legislative message line - 1-800-372-7181 - to leave a message for any number of legislators (a particular committee, all legislators, etc.). The people who answer the phones are just regular state employees - please be polite. If the lines are busy you can leave a message. They do ask for your name and contact info.
In my opinion, calls are given more weight than emails or petitions so I think it's helpful to use the phone line. It's probably best to have a pretty simple message. Examples:
A particular bill - "I am calling to register my opposition to SB 1. I would like this to go to all members of the senate."
or an issue when you don't know the bill designation - "I am concerned about the Bluegrass Pipeline. Private corporations should NOT have the power of condemnation and should NOT be able to seize property by eminent domain. I would like this to go to house and senate leadership and Rep. Graham and Senator Carroll."
Kentuckians for the Commonwealth has a lot of great info as well - http://www.kftc.org/actions/get-involved-2014-general-assembly
