Iowa City area hospitals prepared for state's reopening

The area's three local hospitals said they are prepared if the state sees an increase in positive cases of COVID-19 as it starts to reopen the economy.

They also warn that the pandemic is not over.

"There might be a perception that we're through this," said Dr. Theresa Brennan, chief medical officer at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. "I'm seeing lots of people going into stores without masking, the social distancing not being kept to a standard of 6 feet."

While speaking during a press conference Tuesday, she emphasized that despite the lifting of restrictions on closures, these precautions will continue to be a part of daily life for a long time.
