Iowa Sen. Ernst denies allegation of affair with soldier

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Sen. Joni Ernst on Wednesday denied allegations leveled by her ex-husband that she had an affair with a subordinate while she served in the military.

The Iowa Republican answered questions from reporters about that and other allegations at a town hall event on the University of Northern Iowa campus in Cedar Falls, the Des Moines Register reported .

In the court documents, Ernst’s ex-husband, Gail Ernst, accused her of having an affair with one of her soldiers while she was deployed as a company commander. She said Wednesday that she cares “about all of my soldiers” that the allegation was not true.

Ernst also accused her ex-husband in divorce documents of having an affair and physically assaulting her during an argument before she was elected to the Senate.

And have no idea, who did or didn’t do what when. You never really know someone until you go through a divorce with them. This one is looking to be particularly nasty.

Ernst told a Bloomberg reporter she broke up with the abusive man she dated in college and got help from the campus counseling center in Ames, but Ernst did not report the incident to police.

Ernst told Bloomberg’s Jennifer Jacobs, a former Des Moines Register reporter, that she had not been ready to openly discuss that incident or details of her 26-year marriage, but is doing so now after court papers related to her divorce became public documents. Ernst said during the Bloomberg interview that people know her situation now and that may force her to talk about it publicly.

4. I read and reread the story in the DMR yesterday

and had the same questions as you. If she was abused by her husband, why would she stand up for a Kavanaugh? A Trump? WTF is the matter with her?

Usually the only time a Republican learns anything is when it happens directly to them. Is she too dense to realize that what happened to her has happened to others?

Interesting also that IIRC Ernst told of being raped or molested while deployed to the Middle East yet it was never corroborated.
