High school football players in trouble for cross burning photo

More Iowans making the rest of us look like shit

Creston Community High School administrators have confirmed steps have been taken to discipline students after a photo circulated on social media this morning.

The photo shows five students wearing white Ku Klux Klan hoods and holding a Confederate flag in front of a burning cross. One student is shown holding a gun in the photo.

CCHS Assistant Principal Jeff Bevins confirmed the school investigated the photo.

“We got the picture this morning and it started right then,” Bevins said. “It is a student discipline issue, so no comment as far as what has been done with the students. We have taken action already.”

They went on to say these losers were part of the football team.

that in a group, especially an "elite" and exclusive group like a football team or fraternity, they will act in despicable and sometimes criminal fashion, doing things they never would do individually. Groups of young men can be very dangerous, even if every member of the group is a Sunday-school-teaching, animal-loving, volunteering at the homeless shelter straight-A student.

7. Charlottesville may be another example of what I was talking about

I suspect that many of the "nazis" marching in Charlottesville would never do anything so publicly despicable if they were not part of their male group.

Male group violence gives good cover to cowards.

10. They had it in them to do what they did. I'm sure others on that team declined.

Cross burning and KKK hoods is pure racism.

No excuses.

5. You just watch. I'll bet they delay punishment until after the football season.

I've seen it before when a bunch of football players ran across town breaking windows and yard lights. Mine was one of them. Even though the damages were thousands of dollars, they delayed punishment until later in the year. That sure wasn't much punishment.

Supposedly they're off the team now

The News Advertiser confirmed reports circulating on social media that each of the five players were Panther football players. Each has been removed from the team, per head coach Brian Morrison.

“They’re no longer going to be part of the program. That’s a fact,” Morrison said Wednesday afternoon.

“You tell the kids that everything they do in the community is a reflection of our district, our community and our football program,” Morrison said. “This is an instance where it’s a bad reflection. That’s where I’m having a tough time wrapping my mind around it.”

“This is more important than games Friday night,” Morrison said. “This is talking to parents about, not just the right and wrong things to do but about lifelong decisions trying to be a good person.”

The question of course is if they'll quietly be invited back on the team once the shitstorm has died down....
