Burlington Community School District voters approve ballot measure for new performing arts center
BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) - Voters approved a ballot measure to transform the existing auditorium at Aldo Leopold Intermediate Schools into a performing arts center.
According to the Burlington Community School District, on Sept. 10 voters from nine precincts approved a ballot measure with 538 yes votes, 436 no votes, and one under-vote.
We are so thankful to voters for getting out and supporting this measure and for the opportunity to bring such a high-level performing arts center to our area, Superintendent Robert Scott said in a Facebook post. We look forward to the opportunities this will create for our students and our community.
On the BCSD website they detail the need for the performing arts center citing that BCSD currently is without a performing arts center and the existing spaces at Edward Stone Middle School and Aldo where concerts, plays and musicals are held were built as junior high auditoriums for things like assemblies and therefore lack desired stage size, acoustics, set design room and adequate lighting/seating.
