Chef Charlie Trotter died this morning, according to a family friend and police sources.
An ambulance was called to Trotter's home in the 1800 block of North Dayton Street at 10:45 a.m. and Trotter, 54, was found unconscious and not breathing, according to the friend and fire officials.
A close Trotter friend who spoke to Trotter's sister, Rochelle, said her brother was found by his son Dylan. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the death.

(18,402 posts)1. Oh my, how sad
I never had the privilege of eating at Charlie Trotter's (above my pay grade!), but he was such an important figure to not just the Chicago but the national food scene. So many chefs owe their careers to him.
Very sad for his family and friends.

Never ate there either for the same reason.

Ate in his restaurant once -- for my wife's birthday, if I recall correctly. Heck of a meal.
