Quinn to live on minimum wage for one week

CHICAGO (AP) -- Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn is hoping to show first-hand what it's like to live on the state's minimum wage of $8.25 an hour.

Quinn has made raising Illinois' minimum wage a cornerstone of his re-election campaign against Republican challenger Bruce Rauner. On Sunday the governor announced at a campaign event that he would limit his spending on food and other expenses for the next week to $79.

His heart may be in there right place, but there is no way he could every fully comprehend. He knows that it will be over next week. And he knows that, if the cash in his wallet runs out, he has plenty of money in the bank and won't know the anxiety of living with no safety net.

I call bullshit on the whole thing because THESE JOBS were never meant to be used to support families or even just survive. When I was growing up, kids went to work for McDonalds or delivered pizzas for spending money, develop some basic work skills (like showing up on time) or save up for the upcoming college semester. The minimum wage needs to go up, but the very fact we have to have this discussion just shows how screwed we Americans are.

not even close. Oh Oh some people suffer under using all that minimum wage pay for one person, who have a bed to sleep in. It is like that book Nickle and Dime, where she always had the credit card in case she needed a place to sleep.

Rauner's pandering benefits Quinn

Instead, he drives that ridiculous van. Everyone I’ve talked to today smirked at the idea.

People who have bills have cars with dents because we don’t want to spend the money to fix them when we have other, more important costs, like college tuitions. The dents in our cars aren’t part of our costume. We don’t like the look. We deal with it.

But what does playing Joe Schmo do for Rauner?

Not much. It annoys voters. They don’t like being talked down to. It seems dishonest, as if Rauner is playing a role.

And it’s handing Illinois back to Quinn.
