The Randolph County elections board is scheduled to meet Thursday to discuss a proposal that would eliminate seven of nine polling locations in the county, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia. Included in the proposed closures is Cuthbert Middle School where nearly 97 percent of voters are black.

(15,805 posts)The fact that they have the chutzpah to publically suggest such a clearly discriminatory scheme makes it very clear that racism runs deep and is universally accepted by the majority of the population. This would require the complicity and conspiracy of the education system, the religious community, the political powers, the press and broadcast media, the financial sector, and even the business community.
These problems will never be addressed at a local or even state level. The federal government must redo and modernize the Civil Rights Act to bring an end to the 21st century version of Jim Crow.
