Anybody have a credit union you are happy with?

I'm with Georgia's Own and I am not pleased with some recent changes and some not recent changes. I really want to support a credit union but the locations aren't great and if I am going to get the same kind of treatment I do at a regular bank, I am not sure I want to go out of my way for them. However, I don't usually do a lot of in person banking so it hasn't been a big deal.

Where do you bank? Anybody use Delta Community Credit Union?

It was started when credit union were first formed. Until he died in his 70s he was the chief loan officer and Sec-Trea. Every year the membership would get together to determine the direction and vote for the officers. It was truly done right. The credit unions these days seem like banks with a different name. The members don't have any real say. One thing is many are now covering vast geographic areas so it is hard or impossible for most members to come together and hash out things.

All in all I would say that credit unions have been co-opted by THEM (you know who they are)

One other thing I remember is there was a distribution of net profits of the credit union to the members as a dividend. No credit union I have belonged to does that.

My friend who use to work at a bank said the credit unions were adding lots of new rules and many were very different from traditional banking so she wasn't sure why.

I guess what bugs me the most is a change in something that was pretty significant in making my decision to join. Oh, well.

My wife is a lobbyist (the good kind) for Credit Unions in Georgia and knows many people there.

We are members of Associated, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend. They have also made some changes that I don't like.

My wife says Delta Community CU would be a good choice.

I appreciate the tip from you and your wife. I have a friend with Delta but I haven't had a chance to speak with her yet.

In general, I hate banking and everything about it. But it's not like I have any real money.

20 years!

None of the main branches are near me but it's good to know about them anyway.

Thanks

Best financial thing I ever did. On credit cards alone, my interest (Yes, I know now it's appalling) paid out went from close to $500 a month to less than $150 which allowed us to pay off the cards . A car loan at 1.75% allowed us to get a new car.

There are several credit unions you probably qualify for ranging from military service to just being in a certain geographical area. Shop around, I found it worthwhile.

I hate banking in general but I know it's a necessary evil at times.
