The public-facing websites for county elections offices across the state were down Monday, making critical information about where and when to vote more difficult to find as Pinellas, Hillsborough and many other counties start early in-person voting.
Its unclear what is causing the problem. A Tallahassee-based vendor, VR Systems, said around midday Monday that it would be releasing a statement soon. Several websites had error messages that said they were under heavy load at this time.
As of midday, the Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas elections offices had posted backup versions of their websites with basic information about polling sites and how voters can check their information. But some other elections supervisors websites still showed error messages.
The technology troubles do not affect voting tallies, just the public-facing websites.
