Cops in political ads advocating for either side...

does anyone think this is at the very least unethical? Could it be illegal?

Happening in Florida with Wayne Ivey (and others), a county sheriff in Brevard County, supporting Rubio and trashing Demings. It's infuriating, especially because I cannot stand either Rubio or Ivey.

Counter-counter-counter punch: New Marco Rubio ad continues policing attack

snip//

Rubio’s newest spot also shakes his endorsements in Demings’ face, displaying them in text as Rubio approves the message. He’s been endorsed by 55 of Florida’s 67 sheriffs, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Police Benevolent Association, though all of them either are Republicans or usually Republican allies.

Since this has gone on in OK for as long as I have voted, it's either not illegal or not enforced. Runningdawg Aug 2022 #3

Pennsylvania sheriff are trashing fetterman. I think it’s pretty typical. We get the teachers and they get the police.

But you have to understand the climate here, we've got churches openly advertising for and holding rallies at their churches for MAGA candidates. OK has never separated church and state. I remember the John Birchers holding tent revivals and urging Baptists to run "Catholics, Jews, communists and foreigners" out of town before they could impregnate their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters with "cursed seed". They weren't nearly so kind to minorities.
Most defiantly the precursor to the cult we are all familiar with now.

So they are just politicians with a badge.

But i agree concerning other law enforcement officers. And they shouldn't be using their uniforms for political purposes.

Part of running for office and presenting yourself in a certain light is to get the backing of the same. Democratic Party candidates have had this issue in Florida for a while now. It’s why we can’t get any footing.
