Delaware health officials: Raccoon that bit person was rabid

BEAR, Del. (AP) — A raccoon that bit and scratched a person in the Bear area last weekend has tested positive for rabies, Delaware health officials announced Friday.

The person who was bitten and scratched on Nov. 7 has begun treatment for rabies exposure, the Division of Public Health said in a news release.

Officials are advising anyone who thinks they may have been bitten, scratched, or come in contact with a raccoon in the area of Frazer and Denny Roads in Bear should immediately contact their health care provider or the division’s rabies program. An epidemiologist is available at all times, officials said.

Anyone in the area who thinks a raccoon may have bitten their pet should call their veterinarian for examination, treatment and to report the exposure to the Department of Agriculture.

I'm not worried about rabies. I have an immune system and God will protect me. Midnight Writer Nov 2021 #3
Do you also have a bottle of Ivermectin tablets stashed away for occasions like this? TexasTowelie Nov 2021 #4
For rabies, you need iodine mixed with Mountain Dew. I did some research on that. Midnight Writer Nov 2021 #5

With my endrocrinologist today

We were catching up on the usual topics we talk about including politics.

She told me she got bit by a dog on her ankle and had to get rabies shots just in case since they could not locate the dog.

I was really concerned and flabbergasted at the same time.

Thankfully she's ok..
The world would suck more without my endro in it. I really like her and we have so much stuff in common.

Glad she got the rabies shot, its a terrible way to go.

Good thing the shots are effective.

Knock wood, no rabies deaths this side of the river since 1947.

You shouldn't rely on faith alone. Science is important too.
