Tuesday hearing is first step toward federal concrete help
Elected officials from three communities Ellington, Stafford, and Vernon are urging residents affected by failing concrete in their homes to turn out for a public hearing at Vernon Town Hall on Tuesday that could clear the way for federal funding for foundation testing.
The three towns have joined together to apply for support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Area officials said the coming hearing marks the beginning of a process meant to help homeowners who now feel trapped by what was supposed to be their most important and longest-lasting investment.
Theres a lot more to do, but this is the first step forward, Vernon Mayor Daniel Champagne said Friday. The hope is that it will eventually make a difference for the families that are living with this issue every day.
