Former State GOP Treasurer Avoids Jail In Child Endangerment Case

A former treasurer for the state Republican party pleaded guilty Wednesday to risk of injury to a minor and received a suspended jail sentence and probation.

Gary Schaffrick, 53, of Bristol, was accused of taking baths with a young boy when the boy stayed overnight at his apartment in October 2015.

According to court records, Schaffrick pleaded guilty to a single felony count of risk of injury to a minor and received a 10-year suspended sentence and five years of probation.

Schaffrick was elected GOP treasurer in 2011 and reelected in 2015, but resigned after his arrest.
