Democratic Leader In Hartford To Rally Party For Malloy
HARTFORD Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz came to Connecticut Saturday to rally the party base in hopes of pushing Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to victory.
Wasserman Schultz, a Democratic Congresswoman from Florida, is the first in a string of high-profile political surrogates scheduled to appear in Connecticut this week. President Obama and former President Clinton are also coming to help Malloy, who is locked in a tight race with Republican Tom Foley.
Wasserman Schultz participated in a roundtable on women's issues at state party headquarters and highlighted Malloy's leadership in the days after the Newtown school shootings.
When "the eyes of the world were on Connecticut, Dan Malloy stepped up as a strong and resolute and clear voice to calm people down. ... He gave them the confidence to send their children back to school and gave them to confidence that he was going to fight for the change you needed to make sure .... that you were going to live in a state that was safer,'' Wasserman Schultz said.
