Gov.-elect Ned Lamont personally paying transition costs

Greenwich Democrat Ned Lamont spent about $40 million of his own money on three political campaigns before being elected last month as Connecticut’s next governor.

But in a move that is a first in recent state history, Lamont is also personally funding all transition costs as he awaits his inauguration on Jan. 9.

Under state law, an incoming governor can accept the amount of funding set aside in the state budget or raise money privately for the transition, officials said.

The cost for two months of staff salaries and office expenses is expected to be around $250,000, officials said.
