More officers placed on leave after Pasadena police 'horseplay' shooting, chief says

"Following the release of the [officer-involved shooting] video last week, a witness came forward with additional information, and a new investigation has been opened based on documentation received Sunday, June 14," Harris said. "The officers alleged to be involved have been placed on Administrative Leave - not simply because it's policy, but because it reflects how seriously we take matters like this. When questions arise about conduct, we act."

The video shows one officer pulling his weapon and pointing it at another officer seated in a patrol car before re-holstering it. Investigators said the officer in the patrol car also drew his weapon, which suddenly went off, sending a bullet through the windshield and striking the other officer in the shoulder.

Harris identified the officer who shot his colleague as Roy Alatorre and said he has been fired from the department. The officer who was wounded has recovered and remains employed with the department.

Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo described his disappointment after the video's release, telling Eyewitness News it was "juvenile, unacceptable behavior at the highest level on the part of these officers."
