Southern California is home to some of the nations worst commute times, according to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The government agency found that nearly half of the 10 longest commutes for workers originate in the region, with drivers spending hours every week simply shuttling back and forth between their home and their job.
Americas worst city for commuters by a long shot is Palmdale in northern Los Angeles Countys Antelope Valley. A round-trip commute there averages more than 90 minutes per day, owing to the booming residential regions isolation from the greater Los Angeles basin where most of the high-paying jobs are. The next worst commute time came from New York City, but it was still nearly 10 minutes less than Palmdale.

(327 posts)Most SoCal commutes are an hour one way. Knowing the area, Im thinking it should have been written 90 minutes one way. And, thats not all that unusual.

(4,154 posts)to Little Santa Monica Blvd. Sometimes in the winter Mulholland would be closed due to landslides caused by heavy rains and that would usually add an extra 1/2 hour to my commute as I was forced to go Coldwater the whole way. Ick.
