SF: District 1 supes' race heats up in stretch run to Election Day
San Franciscos Richmond district might be one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world, at least according to travel site TimeOut, but its also one of The Citys most hotly contested political battlegrounds this election cycle.
One of its most expensive, too.
Progressive labor groups and moderate organizations are squaring off in District 1, funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars into a race for supervisor they see as pivotal to determining the ideological balance of the board beginning next year.
When Supervisor Connie Chan won this seat in 2020, it was by the narrowest of margins: After six rounds of ranked-choice vote counting, only 125 votes separated the victorious Chan from the other top contender, Marjan Philhour, a moderate Democrat who ran to the right of her progressive opponent.
