Car flies and crashes into second story of Northern California home
n a story that would seem unbelievable if not for the photo evidence backing it up, a speeding car somehow flew into the second story of a Northern California home Sunday, landing on top of a carport and crashing into a bedroom, officials said.
The home is in Cape Horn, an unincorporated part of Placer County in the Sierra Foothills, about 2 miles north of Colfax and an hours drive from the Lake Tahoe area.
The California Highway Patrol said the car was driving extremely fast on the road that has a speed limit of just 10 mph, KCRA reported. Bob Arant, the homes owner, estimated that the car must have flown about 75 feet before landing on the second story.
Firefighters from the Placer County Fire Department, including a technical rescue team, were able to stabilize the vehicle using a rope system and rescue the driver. The woman driving the car survived her flight, although she was being treated for major injuries at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, the CHP said.
