A pioneer in stop-motion clay animation, Art Clokey was #BornOnThisDay, Oct. 12, 1921. Remembered as the creator of TV's "Gumby" (1955-'60+ the original voice of Gumby's sidekick, Pokey) & for TV's Davey and Goliath (1961-'73). Passed in 2010 (age 88). #RIP #GoneButNotForgotten

At first, I just watched D&G because it was one of the only children's programs to watch on Sunday. I also loved the herald trumpeters playing "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" before every episode. This was before American Christianity had been so befouled by right-wing hate and provincialism, so the episodes usually had a pretty progressive message.
