Rarely has a TV feature brought me to tears...

I just watched the PBS feature "Outdoors with Baratunde Thurston". Last week's segment featured my native state of Oregon. Thuston's exploration of the forest included a climb with an arborist into the crown of a large tree.

Thurston got to about forty feet of the intended climb when he apologized to his host...Saying that he had reached his limit.

Safely back on the ground, Thurston (an African American) bared his sole. Hanging by a rope from a tree flooded him with emotions about the history of lynchings. He broke into tears...taking comfort in the embrace of his host. It was an extremely powerful moment of television.

I applaud PBS for presenting such a powerful unscripted moment.
