As a Scranton native, I was proud of the fact that it was Doberman's hometown also.

He loved the show and, when he was elected Mayor, he had city council meetings moved from Tuesdays to Thursdays so he wouldn’t have to miss the show. Sixty years later, the meetings are still on Thursday.

and would crack up over Bilko. McHale's Navy was a navy version of it, and F-Troop was an old west, cavalry version. Neither topped the original though.
