I thought it might be a good idea to get some idea of how people feel about spoilers. Specifically, I am curious how people feel about spoilers when it involves TV shows based on previously published printed material, like the Sookie Stackhouse novels (HBO's True Blood series) or the Fire and Ice novels (HBO's Game of Thrones series).
I personally do not want to have anything spoiled. I have not read these books and probably will not until after the season that they are based on ends. (I have started the first of the Fire and Ice novels) I prefer to watch the shows without any idea as to what will happen. I understand in both cases there have been departures from the books, some significant and others minor. Thats true in most cases.
I am hoping we can all agree not to discuss any spoilers of any type unless the thread title specifically mentions that spoilers will be discussed. But I am open to any ideas on the topic. I'd like to hear what others think as well. Hope you are all enjoying the new format. I like it.

(13,578 posts)I visit a soap opera board and the title always alerts with SPOILER. Then, they scroll way down on the page ....then post the item...ie.

(63,645 posts)FWIW, the Statement of Purpose for this group does specifically mention spoilers:
Still, I would suggest that everyone needs to be careful not to accidentally stumble upon spoilers. I saw the boardwalk empire thread in here, and I really wanted to read it, but I have been resisting opening the thread because I figured it probably had lots of spoilers. I loved season 1 of Boardwalk Empire, but I haven't had time to watch Season 2 yet.

(4,851 posts)Its tough when someone walks into a spoiler. I hope we can all agree not to post them in non-spoiler threads.
I'm with you on Boardwalk. I've not watched any of season 2 yet, or of season 2 of hung yet. I am waiting for my vacation after christmas and I can watch them all over 2-3 days.
Great job on the new forum Skinner. Thanks for stopping by the forum. I am excited to see so many people I do not know here. The TV forum on the old site had really gotten down to just a dozen or so people. It looks like we have so many fresh faces, and hopefully fresh perspectives here.

(41,832 posts)I love spoilers and spoiler hunting for reality shows, so if I put SPOILER ALERT in the title and someone reads it anyway, I'm not responsible for you being spoiled!!

(2,005 posts)I hate spoilers, so would definitely appreciate a warning in the thread/post title.

(4,851 posts)After a show airs, nothing in it could be considered a spoiler. However in this group the rule we came up with is to identify the episode that you are discussing in the thread title, so no one who has not yet seen the episode will read the thread. Usually it is at most a day or so that people need to catch up, but it helps. Once something airs though, it is no longer a spoiler to talk about it.

(14,794 posts)If one puts !!SPOILER ALERT!! in the post and thread headlines than it is no big deal.

(4,851 posts)Like if you read the Fire and Ice novels that Game of Thrones is based on, you know what happens for the next 3 seasons. Some have let go what happens to some characters and it is very annoying. No spoilers is not just talking about an episode that aired, it is also about talking abotu source material that has not aired yet.

(14,794 posts)in the sci-fi sub-topic if you want to and we'll discuss the book the TV show or movie was based on'..
I don't think there is a problem just mentioning that a book or another adaptation exists, just be sure
to share the plot and story elsewhere.

(2,151 posts)I come to this forum to see what you all consider great and/or interesting to watch. It's a fabulous resource for me. I appreciate a spoiler alert so I don't accidentally ruin my viewing if I follow up on a recommended show.
