Not sure we could swing $$$ for it though. Rooms on trains for sure. We did the City of NO in a room for Mardi Gras. Relaxing.

When my parents, my brother and me moved from Chicago to Washington State, we came by train! It was a great trip. Part of your video reminded me of part of our trip. We were crossing the plains where we could see a lonely peak far away to the north. That day seemed long as the view really didn't change! We made a huge semicircle around the peak before it disappeared. I think I was 8 years old or so.

In all likelihood the mountain in the video - Gold Butte - was the very same mountain you saw on your trip as the Empire Builder skirts past in a large semicircle and you see that mountain for a large part of the day.

The Empire Builder train was inaugurated by the former Great Northern Northern Railway in 1929, taken over by Amtrak in the 1970's, and the route through MT, ID & WA remains unchanged to this day - more proof that the mountain in the vid was indeed the one you saw on your trip.

Thanks for sharing that very interesting snippet about your family history!

Cheers & Best Regards! Pete

Unfortunately, I was quite bored!

We were on that trip in the early 1950's, I think. I was maybe 8 years old.
