When I start seeing Orion, Fall is calling and Winter is closing in. It chases Pleiades across the night sky.

who, in mythology, killed Orion the hunter. Zeus sent the scorpion to kill Orion for boasting that the greatest beast could not defeat him. So Orion was defeated, not by the greatest beast, but by one of the smallest. Zeus then placed him in the sky to remind humans of the perils of arrogance, and placed the scorpion opposite him, so that he would never see the "beast" that defeated him.

(A story a certain presidential candidate should have learned.)

It is always a joy this time of the year to see Orion returning to its commanding presence in the night sky.
