with the iconic Instamatic seems appropriate today. My older brother took me to the 1964 World's Fair, stopping in Washington DC and visiting Arlington and John F. Kennedy's temporary grave site. Only eight of those photos surviving today, sadly. See them here: https://jamesdevore.smugmug.com/PHOTOS-BACK-TO-THE-1960S/FIRST-PHOTOS-1964-WORLDS-FAIR

(5,559 posts)My family lived just outside of the beltway in Maryland and went to Arlington to visit JFK's grave. It was a kind of pilgrimage and a common experience for those living in the metropolitan area. I was seven years old when we attended the 1964 World's Fair. I remember well the GM pavillion, shown in your photos, and riding in a convertible. The Unisphere, GE's Carousel of Progress and the two towers (later featured in Men In Black) all made lasting impressions. I had my first slice of pizza from a shop on the top level of one of the towers. There are photos from that trip, also taken with an Instamatic.
Thanks for the memories and a fitting photo for a somber day.
