4. It is the new Nikon (Nikkor) for Z mount mirrorless

5. You made me look. The lens is awesome.

The Z lenses are amazing. Sharp at full aperture. You get up to 5.5 stops of vibration reduction, plus the VR in the camera body. I especially like the all-internal design. No zooming in and out, which can let dust in past the seals.

I read somewhere that boosting the ISO is really good, as it lets you shorten the shutter speed, gaining more sharpness than you lose with the higher ISO. Proof is right there in your photos. 📷

6. I like the zoom short travel too

like a quarter turn or so.

They must be selling like hotcakes, mine was on backorder for three months. luckily it came in the same week my 200-500 developed a problem with the zoom as a result of my monopod breaking this winter and hitting the ground, so it is in the nikon shop awaiting parts.

7. Sorry to hear that.

I have a backup plan of sorts. All the old F lenses work manually with the FTZ adapter, even non-AI, which were a no-no with the DSLR's. The mirror lens doesn't stop down, so it's pretty transparent. I plugged in all the f-ratios.


Having crazy zoom ratio Coolpix cameras for many years, my main motivation for going mirrorless was to go very wide. The world of 14mm. to 24 mm. is spectacular, and mirrorless bodies allow great freedom of design. I never thought that a 14 mm. lens could be rectilinear, but there you go. It is.

8. My wife got tired of lugging around 10 lbs of camera

so I got her a P1000 which is crazy fun to use up to 3000mm but now I have to negotiate to use it, lol

I visited the SF Bay area recently, and the only reason I took the P510 instead of the P1000 (for shorebird photos) was that I had two mirrorless cameras around my neck already and the P510 was all the extra load I could bear.

Since then, I got (drumroll) a pet stroller, exactly the right size to hold three cameras.
