(34,546 posts)Can you tell me why its called The Wolf Moon?

(151,982 posts)Actually didn't crop this one! Too busy fixing my exposure . . .
It's called the Wolf Moon since wolves often howl at this time of year, to signal the start of their breeding season. They howl to repel intruders and to cause the pack to gather together for the festivities! This I have read about, a little.

(3,766 posts)Your photo made me think of the poem Ars Poetica by Archibald MacLeish. He's talking about how poetry shouldn't have emotion outright, but instead use imagery like your photos-
A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs,
Leaving, as the moon releases
Twig by twig the night-entangled trees,
Leaving, as the moon behind the winter leaves,
Memory by memory the mind
A poem should be motionless in time
As the moon climbs.

May become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms
And the moon is full and bright.
Nice shot!
