Sunset at Spring Lake

Taken at a lake in the Lake Desire Natural Area about twenty minutes from home. I know the second image is the “money shot,” but I really find myself drawn to the first, where I was lucky enough to get light that reminds me of the works of a nineteenth-landscape painter whose name I should remember, but don’t.

Personally, I think the first one is the "money shot". Both are great but I really like the first. LoisB Aug 2023 #1

We've been getting sunsets with the same color changes from blue/white/yellow to pink/blue here recently. I go out in my courtyard to watch them, although last night it was all about shades of orange.

Are you thinking of William Turner?

There’s the famous Romantic painter J.W.M. Turner, and there’s also William Turner of Oxford, as he is commonly known. Personally, I think my first photo more closely resembles the landscapes of the latter, but it’s entirely possible that I first encountered both of their works at the same time, and developed a collective impression of their style, not initially realizing they were two different artists.

during his time, not his contemporary William Turner of Oxford. An example of J.W.M. Turner's work which comes to mind when looking at your first photo:

These are both so beautiful, with great light and compo, as well as color.

Thank you!
